Bengaluru, May 10, 2025 — In a heartfelt tribute to the memory of Ms. Anitha, an 8th-semester of AIML, student of MVJCE who battled with colon cancer, MVJ College of Engineering in association with Indian Cancer Society organized a 5K Marathon on Cancer Awareness. The event, held on the MVJCE campus from 6:30 AM to 8:00 AM, witnessed an overwhelming turnout of students, faculty, staff, and guests, all united in a common cause — to raise awareness and support the fight against cancer.
The marathon, themed “Run for a Cause, Race for a Cure”, was not just a race but a powerful expression of solidarity, resilience, and hope. Participants, whether walking, jogging, or sprinting, moved with purpose, each step symbolizing courage and the collective dream of a cancer-free future.

Following the marathon, participants took part in a solemn Survival Walk around the campus, held in remembrance of those who lost their lives to cancer. This reflective walk served as a tribute to their strength and a reminder of the ongoing fight against the disease.

The event was honored by the presence of the esteemed Chief Guest, Dr. M. S. Ganesh, a Surgical Oncologist whose motivational address set an inspiring tone for the morning. He emphasized the critical importance of vaccination against cervical cancer, highlighting it as a key preventive measure. Adding further depth to the occasion were Dr. Vijay from the Indian Cancer Institute and Mr. Sathish Rao, a cancer survivor who had undergone surgery just three weeks prior. Mr. Rao shared his personal journey and underscored the significance of Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) testing for early detection and timely treatment of cancer. Their insights and experiences brought immense value and emotional resonance to the event.

The marathon concluded with a strong message: “Lace up with love, run with purpose. Every step tells a story of courage.” The event not only honored the memory of a beloved student but also reinforced the values of unity, health, and compassion within the MVJCE community.
As the sun rose over the campus, it illuminated more than just the path of the runners — it shone on a community standing together, stronger than fear, in a race that truly matters.
