Devendra Fadnavis-led Maharashtra Cabinet approved several proposals to improve tribal and technical education across the state.
The Cabinet approved upgrading five primary Ashram schools to secondary level and 19 secondary schools to higher secondary level. The move aims to benefit tribal students in remote and hilly areas.
Officials expect that the move will also help reduce dropout rates, particularly among girls. To support these upgrades, the government will create 30 teaching and 25 non-teaching posts for secondary schools, along with 148 teaching posts for junior colleges.
The Cabinet also cleared the setting up of a new Government Engineering College in Solapur from the 2026–27 academic year. The college will offer courses in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Computer Science, and Electronics and Telecommunication. It will have an intake capacity of 180 students. The project includes funding for infrastructure and the creation of 39 teaching and 38 non-teaching posts.
In another decision, Shri Tuljabhavani Engineering College in Tuljapur will be taken over by the state government and renamed as a Government Engineering College. The institute will introduce courses such as Artificial Intelligence, Data Science and Cyber Security. A total of 118 posts have been approved.
