India has strengthened its school sports ecosystem with the launch of the Kukkiwon International Taekwondo Education Programme, a collaborative initiative introduced by the International Schools Sports Organisation (ISSO), the ISF Academy, and Kukkiwon, the World Taekwondo Headquarters based in South Korea. Held on June 20 and 21 at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Junior School in Mumbai, the programme aims to raise coaching standards, improve technical expertise, and support athlete development within India’s growing school sports landscape.
The initiative brought together 40 Indian taekwondo coaches and practitioners for an intensive educational programme led by international experts. By introducing globally recognised coaching methodologies and technical standards, the collaboration seeks to strengthen grassroots taekwondo while providing educators with internationally accredited knowledge that can be applied across school sports programmes.
Global Expertise Supports Coach Development
The programme featured practical and theoretical sessions covering Kukkiwon-standard poomsae training, coaching techniques, technical skill development, athlete progression models, and modern approaches to high-performance taekwondo instruction. Participants also gained insights into international coaching practices that emphasize structured athlete development, consistency, and long-term performance improvement.
Training was led by Master Ahn Hyung-Won, a Kukkiwon Dispatch Master and Associate Instructor with extensive international coaching experience. His sessions focused on helping Indian coaches adopt globally recognised teaching methods while strengthening technical proficiency and instructional quality. The programme reflects Kukkiwon’s broader mission of promoting standardized taekwondo education across more than 200 countries through internationally certified instructor training.
