Key Background
For the first time ever, the Andhra Pradesh government has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with international technology giant NVIDIA to set up an Artificial Intelligence (AI) University in Amaravati. The collaboration is intended to make Andhra Pradesh a national hub for AI innovation and talent creation. The university will provide top-of-the-line training to 10,000 students in two years in AI, machine learning, and computational sciences.
NVIDIA will be contributing to training beyond this, such as core AI infrastructure development, research centers, AI Factories, and a startup incubation ecosystem. Around 500 startups will be touched by NVIDIA’s inception program, assisting in the development of a successful tech startup ecosystem for the state. The partnership is a pioneering initiative on the part of the government of Andhra Pradesh to provide its youth with future-ready skills and spur economic transformation.
Aside from AI University, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu launched the “Quantum Valley” program—a ₹4,000 crore initiative to support a program for an inclusive ecosystem for deep technologies such as AI and quantum computing. The program will be implemented in two phases: Phase I (2025–2027) will be aimed at infrastructure and educational base development, whereas Phase II (2027–2030) will be aimed at commercialization and international collaborations.
The initiative will bring in the cream of scientists, entrepreneurs, and technology companies, pushing Andhra Pradesh to the head of India’s artificial intelligence revolution. The roll-out will be steered by a high-level think tank of experts, assisted by business leaders like IBM. Consultation sessions and workshops will begin shortly, the first one of which is to be held in Vijayawada on June 30.
These twin statements are within a larger strategic plan to place Andhra Pradesh in the lead position for AI, quantum research, and innovation—building employment, investment, and technological independence for the state.
