Background:

In a major move to improve education in India, NCERT and IIT Madras have signed an MoU to work together on research, classroom technology, and teacher training.

The partnership is in collaboration with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which encourages innovation, inclusion and digital learning.

As part of the agreement, both institutions will create and test modern learning models that use artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML). These will include digital learning tools, multilingual platforms, and data systems designed to improve learning outcomes and measure the success of new teaching methods.

Teacher development will be a major focus of this initiative. NCERT and IIT Madras plan to build advanced training platforms that help teachers use technology more effectively. The aim is to enable educators to offer personalized and data-based learning experiences for students from different regions and language backgrounds.

This collaboration is a step toward transforming how teaching and learning happen at scale,” said an IIT Madras representative. “By combining our technology expertise with NCERT’s knowledge in education, we aim to create practical models that can help schools across India,” said an IIT Madras representative.

Upon its success, these models will be expanded in the country and to more students and teachers. In such a partnership, NCERT and IIT Madras intend to develop a system of modern education, which will facilitate the NEP’s aim of increasing the accessibility, inclusiveness, and technology-based learning. The collaboration should enhance online education in India and equip students and teachers of the future.
