Established in 1860 by the Anglo-Scottish Education Society in Mumbai, the Cathedral and John Connon School originally served as a grammar school for both boys and girls. In 1881, a new building named after Mr. John Connon was constructed on the Esplanade. The Girls’ School, overseen by Mrs. Evans, was founded in 1880 at the Old High Court.

In the 1960s, the school faced financial and organizational challenges, prompting the introduction of co-education. Despite initial resistance, this transition was successfully implemented.

Today, the school is structured into four divisions—the Senior School (Classes 8 to 10), Middle School (Classes 5 to 7), Junior School (Classes 2 to 4), and Malabar Hill School (Lower 1 and Upper 1).
